Then you add four ounces of pepper already ground, 3 scruples of mastic, a single dram each of bay and saffron, five roasted stones of dates, and the same dates softened in wine, with a prior suffusion of wine intervening, in its own proper measure and quantity, so that a smooth trituration may be had. With all these prepared, you then pour over 18 sextarii of mild wine.
